Application Process

THE WEINBERG FOUNDATION IS ACCEPTING
LETTERS OF INQUIRY ON A ROLLING BASIS.

Step 1 – Letters of Inquiry

The Foundation will begin accepting Letters of Inquiry on a rolling basis, there will no longer be a defined grant cycle with a deadline. Nonprofits may submit a LOI when they are ready to do so without any restrictive Foundation deadlines. The Foundation will confirm receipt of each LOI within 30 days. Then, within another 30 days, the grant applicant will receive notification either that the LOI was declined or that the applicant is invited to submit a full grant proposal.

LOIs may be submitted by e-mail, fax, FedEx, or regular mail. If the LOI does not follow the suggested format, it will be returned for corrections. E-mailed LOIs need to follow the suggested format and include two electronic signatures. If you cannot provide this in a Word document, you may scan the signatures and send as a PDF or fax the LOI.

You will receive confirmation that the Letter of Inquiry has been received by e-mail (if you provide an e-mail address) and by postcard.

If you have questions about submitting a LOI, including whether or not your organization meets the grant guidelines of the Foundation, you are encouraged to carefully review the section(s) of the Foundation’s website for each funding area. After reading the detailed information provided on the website, if you still have questions, you are encouraged to contact one of the Foundation’s program directors.

Step 2 – Full Grant Proposals Due

Full grant proposals are submitted to the Weinberg Foundation by the applicant organizations on a rolling basis, approximately one to two months after being invited to submit a proposal.

Step 3 - Review of Grant Proposals

The Program Director typically communicates with the grant applicant about specific questions and secures external opinions about the grant proposal before review by the Program Committee, including the Weinberg Foundation Trustees. These are some of the factors that can lengthen the process. The Program Director will make every effort to keep the applicant informed about the expected decision date.

Step 4 – Grant Decisions Made and Communicated

Organizations that receive grant approvals from the Weinberg Foundation will receive a letter of congratulations as the first step in the award process. At that time, the contract phase of the process begins. Approximately one month after the grant is approved, two copies of a grant contract will be mailed to the grantee. Typically the grantee will take one to two weeks to review, sign, and return the contract. Upon receipt of the signed contracts from the grantee, the Weinberg Foundation will review the signed contract, make sure any changes made are acceptable, and will sign both contracts, keeping one in the Foundation files and forwarding one copy to the grantee. If the grant award is an operating or program grant without any challenge component, a check will be issued for the first payment approximately one month after the signed contract is received. The grantee returns a receipt of payment to the Foundation. After one year, the grantee will submit an annual evaluation report.

Organizations whose requests are not funded will be notified in writing through the mail. The Foundation does not include its rationale in this letter, but you may call your assigned Program Director for additional information.
